Today I will be talking about the effects of smoking on the human body. Cigarettes contain Tobbaco, which contains many different chemical compounds, including Tar,ammonia, para-methoxybenzaldegyde and nicotine which is a highly addictive drug. It is the number one cause of lung cancer and many more diseases including, heart disease, kidney failure, emphysema and many others. Nicotine narrows your blood vessels and puts added strain on your heart.
Your lungs are designed to take in oxygen and distribute it to the rest of your body. When you inhale smoke instead of air it damages the cells in your lungs. Over time some of your damaged lung cells will become cancerous. It becomes hard for you to breathe and your lungs struggle to get air in and out of your lungs. cigarettes contain Tar, with coat your lungs over time.People who start smoking are at high risk of not being able to stop.
The list of ingredients that cigarette companies put in their cigarettes was a closely held secret. But in 1994 the federal government forced Big Tobacco to make their list of additives public. It turned out that there were 599 different ingredients that they used to make them! Here is the list of the ‘lovely’ things smokers put in their lungs every day.
Arsenic: A naturally occurring poison that has been linked to five different kinds of cancer. Its often used in rat poison.
Ambergris: Whale vomit. The fatty stuff that is formed in sperm whales’ intestines and that is thrown up by whales through their mouths!
Ammonia: Its found in fertilizers, household cleansers, and the insides of fridges.
Benzene: The organic compound found in crude oil, and produced by volcanoes and forest fires. It causes leukaemia, a deadly form of cancer.
Hydrogen cyandide: Is a chemical so poisonous that it was actually used by the Nazis to murder large groups of innocent people!
Acetone: Used in nail-polish remover and paint thinner.
Carbon monoxide: The gas that comes out of a car’s exhaust pipe.
Yuck!!!!! That’s what people smoke!!! Imagine what their lungs look like? Actually you don’t I’ll show you.
Ok that’s creepy…
So now you know what smoking does to you. It makes your lungs look like that. If you’re smoking because you think it’s cool, what’s cooler? A Tar covered lung or a perfectly normal lung? If you smoke you lose ten or more years of your life!
So is smoking bad for you? Yes, smoking gives you diseases, shortens your life, gives you bad breath and is highly addictive.
